The November edition of the Scottish Episcopal Institute Newsletter headlines on green matters.
A series of events involving staff and students are reported, as the SEI works out what it means to strive to ‘safeguard the integrity of creation and sustain and renew the life of the earth’ within its own life and operations.
Modules, webinars and a day of prayer and fasting have been arranged. One key component of the programme is the ‘Foundations for Ministry and Mission in Context’ module which aims “to introduce students to key themes relating to Christian ministry and mission in the contexts in which they will serve, and this year its focus is the 5th Mark of Mission, the challenge of safeguarding the integrity of creation, sustaining and renewing the life of the earth.”
Elsewhere in the Newsletter there is an excellent photo special of the October residential weekend at St Mary’s Kinnoull, and celebrations of the remaining two ordinations and licensings of the 2021 Leavers along with news of three Leavers from the 2020 year group.
Among the other highlights on the Newsletter are details of a research project on pioneer ministry in the SEC, how to apply for the Alastair Haggart Bursary 2022, and news of an event at the Kendal Mountain Festival where the SEI Director of Mixed Mode Training, Richard Tiplady, will discuss his mountaineering accident which took place in March 2020 in a talk titled Life or Death on a Mountain: How an avalanche saved my life.
And to round off, there is news of recent ecumenical sharing events, and details of the programme and guest speakers for the next Residential Weekend.
