Director of Studies at the SEI sought “to encourage and nurture formation”

Following the recent appointment of the Rev Dr Michael Hull as the new Principal of the Scottish Episcopal Institute (SEI), a vacancy has arisen for the position of Director of Studies.

The Director of Studies is entrusted with the significant duty of overseeing all elements of SEI’s dispersed, part-residential, formation-led training course, which is validated under the Common Awards scheme via Durham University in Initial Ministerial Education (IME).

“At the Scottish Episcopal Institute, we look to encourage and nurture formation for all the baptised across the Scottish Episcopal Church,” said Dr Hull, “grounded in our distinct Scottish-Episcopal traditions as well as our contemporary theological speculation and reflection. SEI is the sole training agency for the SEC’s authorised ministers. The Director of Studies is pivotal in SEI, steering the intellectual and academic growth of our community. This position is more than simply a higher-educational leadership role: it is about supporting discipleship and life-long learning at all levels of the SEC and its ecumenical partners. The Director of Studies teaches in all programmes of study, from certificate to postgraduate, and serves as SEI’s senior tutor.

“With a particular focus in recent years on whole-church learning, delivered by a system of networked learning for a formational community across Scotland, including vocational pathways to ordination and licensing, fulltime and parttime study, there is a rich potential for the incoming Director of Studies not only to oversee SEI’s participation in the Common Awards scheme, but also to chart the course for SEI to better serve the theoretical and practical needs of the whole SEC.”
