St John’s, Johnstone has been selected as a finalist in the National Churches Trust’s Nayler Awards for Excellence in Church Maintenance!
This recognition is a testament to the dedication and hard work of the congregation, passionate volunteers, and skilled experts who have committed themselves to the preservation and upkeep of the church building.
B-listed St John’s has been through a five-year programme of methodical conservation repair of the roof, rainwater goods, stained glass windows and stonework of the exterior and full refurbishment and some alteration of the interior to improve the welcome and facilities the church offers, including a number of energy-efficient initiatives with LED lighting and improved and flexible control of the heating system. They now have a calendar for routine maintenance and established good contacts with reliable contractors.
The Nayler Awards for Excellence in Church Maintenance are run in partnership with the Pilgrim Trust. They shine a light on the people who look after local churches.
This is the second year that these awards are open to all churches, chapels and meeting houses across the UK. A winner from each of the four nations will be chosen. Out of the twelve nominees in the category, only two are in Scotland, both being Scottish Episcopal Churches – St John’s, Johnstone and St Anne’s, Dunbar in the Diocese of Edinburgh. Good luck to all nominated!
