On Saturday, 21 September 2024, on the Feast of St Matthew, the Preliminary Meeting of the Electoral Synod of our Diocese took place at St Mary’s Cathedral, Glasgow.
The Eucharist was celebrated by the Rt Rev Andrew Swift, Acting Bishop of the United Diocese and Convener of the Electoral Synod. The day saw the election of members for the Preparatory Committee, discussion about the draft version of the Diocesan description, explanation of the process ahead and discernment training.
The members of the Preparatory Committee are the Rt Rev Andrew Swift (Convener, Bishop of Brechin), the Rt Rev John Armes (Bishop of Edinburgh), the Very Rev Frances Burberry (Dean of Edinburgh), the Very Rev Graham Taylor (Dean of St Andrews, Dunkeld and Dunblane), Ley-Anne Haigh-Forsyth (Diocese of Moray, Ross and Caithness), the Rev Dr Elizabeth Breakey (St John’s, Stranraer and St Ninian’s, Portpatrick), the Rev Canon Gordon Fyfe (St Margaret’s, Newlands), the Rev Keith Thomasson (St Ninian’s, Troon), Elliott Glenesk (St James the Less, Bishopbriggs), Petko Marinov (St Oswald’s, Maybole), Nicolette Wise (St Margaret’s, New Galloway).
Almighty God, you have given your Holy Spirit to the Church to lead us into all truth. Bless with the Spirit’s grace and presence the members of the Electoral Synod of the United Diocese of Glasgow and Galloway. Keep us steadfast in faith and united in love, that we may reveal your glory and prepare the way of your kingdom. Amen.
