The Rt Rev Kevin Pearson, Bishop of Glasgow and Galloway, has given formal notice of his resignation (as required under Canon 7 of the Code of Canons of the Scottish Episcopal Church) to the Primus, the Most Rev Mark Strange, following Bishop Kevin’s announcement earlier this year that he will retire on 31 August 2024 shortly after his 70th birthday.

Bishop Kevin’s notice sets in motion procedures to prepare for the upcoming episcopal vacancy. A mandate to inaugurate the electoral process is expected to be issued within 21 days of the Diocese becoming vacant at the end of August. Further information will be shared with members of the Electoral Synod, the wider Diocese and the public in due time.

Bishop Kevin was elected by an Episcopal Synod on 18 January 2020 and was translated to the Diocese in July 2020 from the Diocese of Argyll and The Isles, where he had served as bishop since 2011.

A celebration of Bishop Kevin’s 45 years of ordained ministry and his farewell Eucharist for the Diocese are due to take place on 29 June 2024 at St Mary’s Episcopal Cathedral, Glasgow. All are welcome, please RSVP to the Diocesan Office. The service will be livestreamed and available for later viewing on St Mary’s YouTube channel.
