SEI Director of Contextual Formation appointed

The Rev Dr Anna-Claar Thomasson-Rosingh has been appointed as the new Director of Contextual Formation at the Scottish Episcopal Institute.

Anna-Claar, who is currently Director of Studies at the SEI, will now oversee all elements of the SEI’s dispersed, part-residential, formation-led placements and contextual training in Initial Ministerial Education (IME).

The Rev Prof Michael Hull, Principal of the Scottish Episcopal Institute, welcomed the new appointment on behalf of the Scottish Episcopal Institute Council. He said: “Anna-Claar has a passion for contextual formation and feels called to transition to Director of Contextual Formation from Director of Studies, for which recruitment will begin in due course. The transition of roles will be gradual until a new Director of Studies is recruited.

“Please know of SEI’s joy in Anna-Claar’s ministry, especially in this new role, and hold her in prayer.”

Anna-Claar took up the post of Director of Studies at the SEI in December 2023, after serving as a Chaplain at the Dungavel Immigration Removal Centre. Along with her family, she moved from England to Scotland in 2021, when her husband the Rev Keith Thomasson became Rector of St Ninian’s Episcopal Church, Troon.

She has extensive experience in theological education and pastoral ministry. At Sarum College, she served in a variety of roles including Director of Studies for the Sarum Centre for Formation in Ministry; in the Southern Theological Education and Training Scheme, she served as Vice Principal, MA Programme Leader and Tutor in Biblical Studies. Just before moving to Troon, she was the Team Vicar in the Chalke Valley Benefice in the Diocese of Salisbury.
