The Most Rev David Chillingworth, Bishop of St Andrews, Dunkeld & Dunblane and Primus of the Scottish Episcopal Church says ” The Good Friday and Easter story of the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ engages us at the deepest level. There is human failure. But we also meet God’s power to overwhelm sin and death with resurrection life.
“The world has been profoundly shocked by the events in Brussels this week. They have been a Good Friday of the heart and mind – a reminder of the human potential for savage and indiscriminate cruelty. But gradually other stories will emerge – actions missed by the TV cameras. There will be stories of courage, of help lovingly and sacrificially given to strangers. The human spirit refuses to be crushed by cruelty. It affirms hope and possibility when all else is failure and loss.
“Good Friday and Easter are not just a religious story. They are about the depths of human life and the heights of God’s loving action in raising up life from the dead and overwhelming despair with hope.”
