Mandate for Episcopal Election and Summons for Electoral Synod Issued

The Primus of the Scottish Episcopal Church, the Most Rev Mark Strange, issued yesterday, Monday 2 September 2024, a mandate for the election of the next bishop of our diocese, as outlined in Canon 4 of the Calling and Election of Bishops to Vacant Sees.

The Rt Rev Andrew Swift, our acting bishop during the vacancy, has also issued summons to the eligible members of the Electoral Synod for a preliminary meeting on Saturday 21 September.

Eligible Members of the House of Clergy are those who are instituted, licensed or commissioned and are resident in the Diocese. Eligible Lay Members are Charge Lay Representatives (or Alternates) and Diocesan Lay Representatives to the General Synod.

If you are unsure about your status or were expecting to be a member of the Electoral Synod but have not yet received the summons, please contact Christine Hughes at the office on 0141 221 5720 or email her at office@glasgow.anglican.org.

A timeline of the process ahead is available on the Bishop Search 2024 page of our website. Please keep the people of our diocese and those discerning a call to be our next bishop in your prayers.
