The Very Rev Reuben Preston will demit the office of Dean of the United Diocese of Glasgow and Galloway, on Sunday, 10 May 2026, following the first anniversary of the installation of the Rt Rev Dr Nicholas Bundock, in line with Canon 43, Article 2.

Bishop Nick writes:
Dean Reuben has been a wonderful support to me personally and professionally since I arrived in Scotland last May. Picking up the reins of diocesan bishop and coming from outwith the province would have been extremely hard without his patience, knowledge and generosity.
As the end of my first year as bishop draws near, there is a canonical process by which a dean is appointed, and I did not want that to happen without first giving my public thanks to Dean Reuben. And it is not just me who will wish to offer thanks. I know that many of our congregations, vestries, clergy, diocesan officers and lay ministers have been grateful for his ministry since he was appointed by Bishop Kevin in November 2020. Over that time, he has helped make some stellar appointments, guided dozens of churches through vacancies, sat on endless property, council and core group meetings and been at the end of the phone in times of crisis. Moreover, Reuben was a steady hand on the tiller during the episcopal vacancy.
Thank you Reuben!
I would like to recognise Reuben’s contribution to the diocese in several ways, but most significantly by appointing him an honorary canon of St Mary’s Cathedral, Glasgow. I will also be offering a way for charges and individuals to show their appreciation by making a collection towards a gift.
In respect of appointing a new dean, I have followed a process of discernment, rooted in prayer, and an announcement will follow in due course.
A special service of Evensong at St Mary’s Cathedral will serve both as the official send-off for Reuben and as the welcome to our new Dean.
Please join me in prayer at this time. Pray for Reuben and Stephen as they enter a new phase of life and ministry, and pray too for the person who will take up this important role in the life of our diocese.
+Nick
